The police are doing their utmost to establish the facts and identify suspects. A Large-scale Investigation Team (TGO) has been set up to investigate the robbery. This document sets out what we as the police have done so far and how you can help with the investigation.
Do you know more?
The police have many unanswered questions and are still looking for witnesses who saw or heard anything unusual. We want to get in touch with witnesses:
- Did you hear or see anything related to this incident?
- Were you in the vicinity of Lagebrugweg between Sunday 10 July (7.00 p.m.) and Monday morning 11 July (08.00 a.m.), and did you see anything suspicious in the area of the house?

Any information you have may be important to the investigation. Even if you have doubts about whether you should pass on information, we urge you to do so.
Location
The investigation into the house robbery is fully underway, with the full capacity and commitment of the police and the judiciary since its launch. A Large-scale Investigation Team has been set up to investigate this robbery. The crime scene investigators have examined traces in and around the house. Witnesses and neighbours have been interviewed, and CCTV footage has been secured and is being reviewed. The circumstances under which the victim was found give us cause to assume a violent robbery. The man was found bound and gagged. However, it is not yet clear whether any of the man's belongings were ultimately taken. Nor have we yet been able to establish where the perpetrator or perpetrators fled to and how. There is a possibility that they fled through a cornfield, but we are keeping other options open as well.
The investigation team is doing its utmost to establish the circumstances and identify the suspect or suspects. We still have many unanswered questions that we hope further investigation will answer. We do not yet have a clear image of what happened. No arrests have yet been made. Forensic investigations were conducted over several days in and around the victim's home in search of traces that might lead us to the perpetrator or perpetrators.
Questioning of passers-by
A comprehensive operation to question passers-by was conducted from 6:00 p.m. on the Sunday evening of 17 July until 08:00 a.m. the following morning of 18 July. Everyone in and around Lagebrugweg between those times was asked whether they had noticed anything unusual in the previous week that could be related to the incident. Flyers were also distributed in Dutch, English and Polish.

UPDATE 18-12-23: Break-in – Lagebrugweg - Helenaveen
Helenaveen – The police are looking for three men, who during the evening of 2 November 2023 broke into a house in Lagebrugweg. Who can recognise the men in the images? The break-in was committed in a house where the resident, Jan van Mullekom, was found seriously injured in July 2022 and who later died. He lost his life due to a crime.
On Thursday 2 November it was evident that there had been a break-in at the house. This happened while the house was still at the disposal of the police investigation and it was fully sealed off. Security videos of this break-in have become available, on which the offenders can be seen and heard. In our search to find out the identity of these three men, we are now asking for the help of witnesses. Who can recognise one or more of the people visible in the images? Images of one of them are quite clear. Who can recognise the voice which can be heard? Is that the voice of the man who is clearly visible or of one of the other offenders?
Striking
That the break-in happened at the sealed house where previously a man had been found seriously injured is nothing less than striking. The team investigating the case does not rule out a possible connection. In the interest of the investigation, however, it is not yet possible to give further information about the investigation. That might frustrate the investigation at a later stage.
Fatal house break-in
On the morning in question, at around 8:00AM on Monday 11 July 2022, the police received a report that a seriously injured man had been found in a house in Lagebrugweg in Helenaveen. This concerned the 47-year-old resident. He was unresponsive and it was evident that he was indeed seriously injured. The man was found gagged and bound. A few days later he died in hospital. He appears to have been the victim of an extremely violent break-in. A large scale investigation team (TGO) has been investigating this case since the start and they are still looking for the offenders. The victim’s house remained sealed for a long time, during which it was at the disposal of the investigation team. Several additional investigations have been carried out there.
Who are the offenders?
Anyone who knows, or who suspects they know, who committed the break-in is being asked to come forward. The same applies, of course, for anyone with information about the death of Jan van Mullekom. Call the investigation tip line (Opsporingstiplijn) on 0800-6070 with your information or, if you want guaranteed anonymity, call the anonymous tip line (Meld Misdaad Anoniem) on 0800-7000.
