Police assume connection between explosions at Rode Kruis Ziekenhuis hospital in Beverwijk
Beverwijk - The police assume a connection between three explosions at Rode Kruis Ziekenhuis hospital, at Vondellaan in Beverwijk, the Netherlands. On 25 and 26 November 2024, two explosives were detonated, while the hospital was targeted again on 12 January 2025. The investigation into the explosions is still ongoing, and investigators assume that they were carried out by order of a single commissioning party. The police would like to get into contact with people who can provide any information.
Explosions on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 November 2024
On Monday 25 November 2024, the suspect appeared to have placed an explosive in front of the entrance, which swiftly exploded, followed shortly after by a second, more serious explosion. On 26 November, it happened again, causing a fire in one of the hospital’s revolving doors. The suspect sprinkled a liquid against the front of the building, which first led to a fire and subsequently to an explosion. No arrests have been made in connection with these explosions.

Explosion on Sunday 12 January 2025
On Sunday 12 January 2025, Rode Kruis Ziekenhuis hospital at Vondellaan was targeted again. On Wednesday 15 January, the police were able to arrest a 37-year-old man from Beverwijk in connection with this explosion. The suspect has been in detention ever since. Mid-April, the court will decide on extension of his pre-trial detention.
