The Netherlands - The Netherlands participates in the international campaign “Identify Me” with eleven cases.

In nearly all cases of the Identify Me campaign, the victims are unidentified women who probably died as a result of a crime. Below an overview of all the women found in the Netherlands. Tip offs about their identity are very welcome and can be submitted via the online tip off form or via one of the other options mentioned at the bottom of this page.

The woman with the Belgian connection (NL11)

Who is the deceased woman who was found along the river Meuse near Maastricht, the Netherlands, on 6 January 2013? Based on a scan of her skull, an image was created of what she may have looked like, but in life, she may have looked quite different. The colour of her hair, her eyes and her skin are unknown. The main clue in determining her identity is her jewellery. In addition to a tongue piercing, the woman wore a notable ring and a necklace with markings.

The woman with the German keys (NL10)

Who is the deceased woman who was found in the dune area near Wassenaar, the Netherlands on 4 July 2004? The woman may have come from Germany She wore clothes that were mainly sold in Germany and Switzerland. She was also in possession of keys that were, once, delivered to an address in Bottrop, Germany. The woman had several scars and wore a notable cat watch. She probably spent the last years of her life, the period from 1999 to 2004, in Germany or the Netherlands.

The woman in the suitcase (NL09)

In the autumn of 2005, a red suitcase was seen lying in the canal at Thorbeckesingel, in a residential neighbourhood in Schiedam, the Netherlands. The suitcase was there for some time. A municipality landscape contractor wanted to remove the suitcase and took it out of the water. The suitcase was found to contain the body of a young woman.

The woman in the IJ river (NL08)

On 17 May 2004, the captain of a tugboat found a large bag in the IJ river in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The bag was found to contain the lower body of a woman.

The woman in river Gaasp (NL07)

On 17 September 1999, a man noticed an industrial waste container floating in the river Gaasp. The man decided to pull the container out of the water and into his boat, but as he did so, he smelled a corpse smell. The man notified the police, who found a body in the container, partially encased in concrete. It was the body of a woman who had been killed by gunshot.

The woman on the boat (NL06)

In January 1998, a fire broke out on a small houseboat at Jacob van Lennepkade in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. After the fire, the body of a woman was found in the houseboat. Investigation revealed that the woman had been living under a false name. Her true identity was never discovered. You can find more information on the case via the link. The woman with the bracelet (NL05)

On Friday 13 January 1995, a passer-by saw a plastic package floating in the water in Amstelveen. The passer-by called the police. The package turned out to contain a part of the lifeless body of a woman, wrapped in a sheet. Her head, lower legs and one arm were not found. The police investigated the cases but has not been able to establish the woman’s identity.

Woman at the border (NL04)

Het Zwin is a nature conservation area in the coastal region linking the Netherlands and Belgium. On Wednesday evening 6 July 1994, a tourist found body parts in the grass near the former Zwin museum, close to the border, on the Dutch side. A day later, more body parts were found in a nearby creek. The body parts belonged to a woman who has not yet been identified.

The woman in the canal (NL03)

On 6 September 1992, around noon, a passer-by noticed something in the centre of Amsterdam. The passer-by found two hands at Lauriergracht. When the canal was searched, two lower legs were found. Subsequently, a suitcase containing the torso of a female was found in the canal at Egelantiersgracht. Some days later, more body parts were found at Prinsengracht. It quickly became clear that all body parts belonged to the same person. However, this person’s identity has not yet been established.

Teteringen girl (NL02)

On 25 December 1990, Christmas Day, the body of a young woman was found in the woods in Teteringen, near Breda, in the Netherlands. Her identity was never established. However, it is clear that she was killed and had probably been seriously neglected and abused before her death. You can find more information on the case via the link. The girl on the parking lot (NL01)

On Sunday 24 October 1976, hikers were walking near the former parking lot De Heul, alongside the A12 motorway near Maarsbergen, between Utrecht and Arnhem in the Netherlands. Hidden under soil and branches, they found the lifeless body of a woman, probably a young woman.
